Overview
UVA Engineering joined the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre network in 2014 — one of only three in the United States. Led by materials scientist Elizabeth Opila, it puts six faculty, two postdoctoral scientists and fifteen doctoral students on the coatings and ceramic matrix composites that survive inside a jet engine. Not every piece of UVA research becomes a company; some of it becomes a part.
