Overview
Run by the Foundry and open to every school, the E-Cup carries an idea through three annual stages — Concept, Discovery and Launch — awarding about $100,000 in all. Concept surfaces raw ideas across five tracks, Discovery pays teams to de-risk them, and Launch backs the ones ready to become companies.
- Concept — $25,000 across five tracks, $1,000 each to the top five in every track
- Discovery — $25,000, five projects at $5,000 each, for de-risking the idea
- Launch — up to $50,000 in prize money and in-kind resources
- Tracks: Engineering & Healthcare Technologies, Social Entrepreneurship, Consumer, Business-to-Business and UVA Wise
- Teams of up to six, with at least one current UVA student — undergraduate through postdoc
